SINGAPORE RING 115 - Nov 2022 Magic Meeting Report

Written by Admin

About 25 members of “The Great Wong Ring” attended our “Magic Sale & Auction Night” in November. We had previously hosted an online version for members about a year ago. This time, hot on the heels of the previous and enjoyable one, member Jeremy Pei adorned the hat of auctioneer in this in- person event. An old hat (he wore a black hat and black t-shirt) at managing the bidding game, he deftly sold all the items put up: magic props, DVDs, and magic effects.

As the emcee and one of the coordinators (with Baharudin as my wing-man), I was ably assisted by our committee-members, including Kenneth Chia and Curtis Choy who handled the business side of things. We are immensely thankful to Kenneth who ably handled a major crisis, that led to us realizing this event. Our committee tagged every item sold and recorded the bids, while magic-dealer Jeremy coaxed the members along with his commentary and review of almost each item.

Before the main event, Harapan Ong promoted his “Mega-Jam” session, slated for 10 December, touting it as a communal gathering for practitioners of cardistry and close-up magic. He is an established card aficionado and best- selling author for Magic, Inc. A few of our members signed up on-the-spot. The first-half of our meeting was spent shopping at the various dealers’ table. Before I emceed this event, I, too, bought a few pre-loved books and manuscripts.

We ended on a boisterous note, whether anyone won a bid or not. Long-time member Charles Choo won the highest bid for “Dream Box Celebrities”. Those who had their items successfully auctioned off, gave a small commission to our ring; certainly, a “gain-gain” result for all. It was fun to participate in the bidding and enjoy the fruits of our enthusiastic biding. Magic meetings are about the joyful and appreciative fellowship of magicians within an IBM Ring.
